GETTING ACCEPTED
Last updated: 09.30.07

I thought it best that I have a small section noting the specific qualities that I look for in sites that request hosting. I'm a little out of the norm on this subject.. I'm not looking for the next huge talent or the person that has the best layout and the most traffic. I think of hosting as a springboard. Being hosted gives you time to grow and mature in your abilities. It allows you find out exactly what kind of site you want to create in the future.

DETAILS

The very first thing I look for is level of activity on the site. I do NOT mean your level of traffic. How often do you update? Has it been two months since your last big update? Or did you just update this morning? One of the rules of being hosted here is that you must update at least once every two weeks.. If this is not something that you have a history of doing in the past, why should I think that you will suddenly kick it into high gear once I accept you? Obviously in some circumstances, updating that often is not possible but that is understood and discussed between hostess and hostee.

I then go to the personal section of the website. I read everything I can about you, the owner, so that I can see if we would be compatible as friends. I look for things we have in common and, of course, things that we do not. I also like to get a sense of your level of maturity. I prefer older hostees.. some closer to my own age.. but even some older ones do not have the level of maturity required to cope with the responsibilies of being hosted.

Also.. How driven are you to create top-quality website content? What have you picked up since you've been online? Do you know what it takes to keep traffic coming to your site? Is your site organized enough for proper viewing? Do you join rotations, cliques, listings and etc to try and get your name out there?

Layout and graphic making skills are probably the very last thing that I look at.. Just because your very first few layouts have been low quality does NOT mean I won't accept you. Everyone has to start somewhere. Now, if you've been online for ten years and still haven't gotten the hang of it, I might have to consider that a bit more closely. But no one starts out with perfect graphics.. as much as some would lead you to believe.
