All of my regular visitors know James and I have pet rats that we adore and spoil beyond any reasonable level of sanity.. *lol* But we've recently gotten drawn into an enormous mess. *lol*
We were looking for new baby boys to adopt and found a new litter on our local Craig's List. We were told they had at least eight young male babies, maybe more, so we made arrangements to go look at the litter.
We got to the house and every animal was pregnant.. cats, chickens, reptiles, rats and even the girl we adopted them from. I won't go into the condition of the home but it was really, really bad. The rat babies, boys and girls were caged with their father and all were about 8 weeks old. Needless to say, we came home with 11 babies. Ten females and one male. We just could not leave them there..
Now - to catch you all up... All ten of the females are pregnant and about to give birth probably within the next 7-10 days. An average litter is 10-12 BUT rats can have anywhere from 2-33 babies in just one litter. SO.. you all do the math.... Can you count that high?? *lol*
We're beginning a huge program to find these mommies and babies homes. We only keep male ratties ourselves so we'll of course be picking a few males from the litters to keep but all females needs to find homes.
Right now I'm creating a website with pictures of the moms. Once the babies are born pictures of the babies will be posted. Each baby will be given a number so that people can easily specify which baby they want to adopt and I can label the pictures accordingly.
So that's why the delay..
