OUR WONDERFUL PETS

Welcome to our zoo! We love animals of all kinds. Big.. little, fuzzy and the not so fuzzy. I've added photos of everyone and tried to add some little details too. We love them all equally and try our best to spoil each and every one just as much as the next. These furbabies are our children. :)

MEET ANDY

I say Andy is "special".. Hubby says he's "special ed". He's a cocker spaniel / golden retriever mix. He has issues with aggression, anxiety and hyper-activity. He was found as a small puppy in a ditch and turned into the Richmond SPCA. He was adopted out twice and returned due to his "issues". They believed that some pretty bad things happened to him when he was a pup.. and I would have to agree, but he's a spoiled rotten doggie now. We adopted him on August 30, 2003 when he was 10 months old and he's been with us ever since! He's a 55 lb. lap dog and 100% momma's boy! Dogster?

MEET ABBEY

Abbey's breed is up for debate. Her vet says she's a gordon setter mix.. I say she's an austrailian shepherd / jack russell mix. We adopted her from the Henrico Humane Society on March 30, 2006 when she was 8 weeks old. The day we adopted her, she started showing symptoms of Parvo. She made it through that to get puppy vaginitis.. then crystals in her urine and yeast in her ears. She's our problem child. :) She's a very funny sort of dog.. she watches TV with us and will stand on her hind legs to get closer to it when a dog show is on. If we hang a new picture or rearrange the magnets on the refrigerator, she barks at them! Goofy dog! Dogster?

MEET CREAMY

Creamy is a big boy. And I do mean BIG.. Weighing in at almost two pounds! He's a neutered, dark brown and white hooded dumbo rat born 11/01/2005. He was an original cagemate of Peaches' (now passed). Both rats were adopted from the Henrico Humane Society after being removed from a house that was raided rescuing more than 100 other animals. He's a very sweet boy that loves to snuggle, give kisses and have his ears rubbed.. and you may occassionally catch him sleeping on his back with all four legs in the air. His favorite foods are banana and avacado.

MEET DOYLE

Doyle is a beige and white hooded rat with a wide beige stripe down his back. He was born 08/23/2006. We adopted him from Richmond Rat Rescue. His original owner had to get rid of him because his cagemate kept attacking him.. leaving him with torn ears. He's a very sweet, very submissive boy that loves snuggling with his buddies, Theo especially. He enjoys storing his food more than eating it.. and stays skinny running food up and down the levels of their cage to his "secret" storage spot. His favorite food seems to be his lab blocks!

MEET LADDIE

Laddie is an agoudi and white hooded dumbo rat with a skinny agoudi stripe down his back. He was born 02/22/2007 (littermate to Scotchie & Theo). We adopted him and his brothers from Richmond Rat Rescue when they were just 6 weeks old! He's a very hyper-active boy that loves to climb.. and jump.. and run. Needless to say, his favorite toy is his running wheel! His favorite foods are cooked spaghetti noodles and uncooked oatmeal.

MEET SCOTCHIE

Scotchie is a black and white hooded dumbo rat with a skinny black stripe down his back. He was born 02/22/2007 (littermate to Laddie & Theo). We adopted him and his brothers from Richmond Rat Rescue when they were just 6 weeks old! He's shy and a little skittish. As he gets older he seems to be warming up to us and will come out to greet us but is just now taking food from our fingers. He does like to be snuggled but doesn't like hands coming towards him so he will usually try to run when you pick him up. He loves to swim so he adores his bath time! His favorite food is uncooked spinach pasta.

MEET THEO

Theo is a beige and white hooded dumbo rat with a skinny beige stripe down his back. He was born 02/22/2007 (littermate to Laddie & scotchie). We adopted him and his brothers from Richmond Rat Rescue when they were just 6 weeks old! He adores both Creamy and Doyle but seems to be a good buddy of all the rats he lives with. His favorite foods are lettuce and banana. He loves attention and will beg for a good ear scratch.

MEET DEAN

Dean is a neutered, solid black, rex rat with a slightly wavy coat. His birth date is estimated at 10/01/2006. We saw a listing on Norfolk's Craig's List requesting a new home for him and his cagemate Munkey (below). Their owners didn't have time for them anymore and we fell in love with their pictures so we ended up driving the 2 hours to pick them up from their home! He has a lot of scars down his back from a very bad encounter with another rat at his old home that resulted in him having to be neutered due to testicular wounds. He's very loving and wants to be right with you all the time. When you open the door to their cage, you have to watch him to make sure he doesn't jump out to get to you. He loves any and all food but his favorite seems to be their fruit flavored yogurt treats. He will stuff his cheeks with them and grab one in each front paw while trying to find a way to grab more. *lol* He has a birth defect resulting in part of his front lip being missing.. so it looks like he's smiling all the time. :)

MEET MUNKEY

Munkey is a agouti rex rat with a beautiful curly coat. His birth date is estimated at 01/01/2007. We saw a listing on Norfolk's Craig's List requesting a new home for him and his cagemate Dean (above). Their owners didn't have time for them anymore and we fell in love with their pictures so we ended up driving the 2 hours to pick them up from their home! He is a.. special boy. He is eternally stuck in puberty and has a very bad habit of humping everyone else. At first, we thought it was just a dominance thing BUT it's not so we'll be making plans to neuter him very, very soon. :p Other than that, he's very sweet and loves attention. His favorite good is easily the uncooked tri-color twist pastas. :)

MEET OATMEAL

Oatmeal is a very handsome champagne berkshire rat so he has a cute little white belly. He was born 03/01/2007. We saw a listing on Norfolk's Craig's List requesting a new home for him and his two cagemates, Onyx (also his littermate) & Ollie. Their owners couldn't afford to continue caring for them so we drove to VA Beach to pick them up! He's a very sweet, laid back rat. He loves to sleep in his hammock and snuggle with his buddies. His favorite food is peanuts, still in the shell of course.

MEET OLLIE

Ollie is a solid white rat with pink eyes. Our vet estimated his birthdate to be around 01-01-2007.. but personally I think he's a little older than that based on his demeanor. Anyway, we saw a listing on Norfolk's Craig's List requesting a new home for him and his two cagemates, Onyx & Oatmeal. Their owners couldn't afford to continue caring for them so we drove to VA Beach to pick them up! It turned out that Ollie had a really bad case of mites when we got him and had to treat him and his two buddies with Ivermectin injections and monthly topical revolution treatments until we got a handle on his situation. Since getting over the mites, he's gained a good amount of weight and has started to come out of his shella little bit. He's naturally very shy and timid.. but he likes to be snuggled and scratched. He's really a very sweet boy. His favorite food is red grapes. :)

MEET ONYX

Onyx is a solid black rat. He was born on 03/01/2007 along with his brother Oatmeal. He's the third in the group we adopted from VA Beach after seeing their listing on Norfolk's Craig's List. Their owners couldn't afford to continue caring for them so we drove to VA Beach to pick them up! He has a funny personality in that he loves people but is fairly intimidated by other rats. It takes him a little bit to warm up to other rats and usually finds himself being pushed around a little just because he doesn't stick up for himself. He just takes a little while to settle in.. but he loves people and is always begging for attention and treats. Though he prefers his cheese flavored yogurt treats. Yum yum!
